A top-rated Bollywood movie starring Bipasha Basu, Naseeruddin Shah, Saif Ali Khan and Vidya Balan. The story is about an ambitious woman who's suddenly widowed and must take care of her family. The film "Always Kabhi Kabhi" is a comedy drama that tackles the subjects of widowhood, single motherhood and how to deal with unsupportive family members. The movie stars famous Indian actors like Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah, Bipasha Basu and Saif Ali Khan. It also deals with issues like financial hardships which are an aspect of life for many people living in India today. The movie opens with the shot of a house, the family pictures on the walls, and other household items. A maid walks into a room to turn off an alarm clock. Inside the house it is dark, but outside it is sunny. The camera moves inside through an open window, and we see a woman lying in bed asleep. She stirs awake and sits up. Her name is Chanchal Lahiri (Vidya Balan). She has been asleep for twenty-four hours after her husband's death, and her daughter Tanu (Shernaz Patel) comes to wake her up. A montage of shots of the family being together follows, including women cooking, men doing dishes, and everyone gathering around for breakfast. The family sits down to eat with Chanchal's Aunt Jyoti (Aruna Irani). She tells Tanu that she is getting married to one of her nephews. Chanchal regrets that the wedding will now be held without her. A few days later, Chanchal is cleaning up her husband's study when she sees a vinyl record under his desk. It is a collection of song parodies entitled "Kabhi Kabhi Kabhaiyaan" (which means "My My My Brother"). She is amused by this, because her husband never sang in public. Chanchal sings a little song in response to the collection.
The music of Always Kabhi Kabhi is composed by M. M. Kreem and the lyrics are written by Kumaar & Rajuu. The title track of this film is sung by American-Irish singer Jimmy Kennedy, while the other three tracks are sung by Vijay Prakash, Shreya Ghoshal and Sujata Mishra respectively. The music was very well received by critics and it emerged as one of the biggest commercial success for the year 2011 in India. The film was panned by critics and had a poor run at the box office. The "Deccan Chronicle" called it a hopelessly dull comedy.
